Nearly half of the world’s fathers, mothers, sons and daughters live on less than two dollars a day. For many of them, poverty can be likened to a trap. Our Challenge, the Two Dollar Challenge, is to break the self-perpetuating cycle of poverty. We can succeed in this Challenge by learning how the other half of the world’s population lives and joining in partnership with non-profit organizations whose development programs expand economic opportunities and improve the everyday living conditions faced by the poor.
Join us in taking on the Challenge of our generation. Here is how:
Challenge Week Steps
1. Pick an Issue or Cause.
Poverty is so much more than a limited income. Lack of healthcare, limited education, human rights violations, and inability to access loans are just a few problems many face which need solutions.
2. Choose a Partner
If you are passionate about microfinance we have a partnership with industry leader Opportunity International. For other causes you pick any organization you believe makes the biggest impact. If you are dedicated to developing your own initiative this can be your startup cash.
3. Pick a Monetary Goal
Think about how much time you have and how many people are joining the movement on your campus. From past experience and our overall goal for TDC this year we are hoping for each campus to shoot for at least $2-3,000.
4. Take the Challenge
Download our Campus Leader Sourcebook or Participant’s Manual to get some great information on how to fundraise, what a “shanty-town” is and why it’s a great opportunity, and how to put on a successful Challenge Week. Join students across the nation who are also raising awareness of poverty and money for economic development causes. Questions? Contact us!
5. Put Your Knowledge in Action to End Poverty
Through the course of the week students gain a passion, access to resources, and knowledge from experts. Continue to work to end poverty by developing your own programs, pursuing internships and on the ground experience, and spreading the knowledge you have gained.
