Mission Statement
Two Dollar Challenge is an educational movement that engages students in the fight against global and domestic poverty. Our role is to:
- Show students a glimpse of what it means for half the world to live on two dollars a day;
- Inspire students to take action and help alleviate poverty; and
- Empower students with the skills and resources they need to become the next generation of leaders in the field of development.
Poverty Action Program
To realize our mission TDC has created the Poverty Action Program, which has three components:
Challenge Week – an experiential learning exercise designed to simulate poverty. Students live on $2 a day for five days as well as adhere to a number of other rules designed to expose students to the multiple ways poverty manifests itself and affects people beyond just limited income.
Poverty Action Conference – a one day conference and kick-off to the TDC month where students have the opportunity to present their development initiatives and brainstorm with other students as well as experts.
Poverty Discussion Forum – a discussion between all participants and partners addressing the experiences, the next steps to take, and the future of the field of development.
