Poverty Discussion Forum

Poverty Discussion Forum

As part of our Poverty Action Program, students on college, university and high school campuses across the country will have the opportunity to conduct their own Challenge Week. Challenge Week has been known to be transformative. Its emotional and physical discomforts have inspired deeply significant reflections from participants. We believe that it is in those reflective moments that the potential for change resides. Indeed, we believe that this potential is magnified when it is expressed and shared with others. For these reasons, we invite our participants to use our Poverty Discussion Forum to introduce themselves to each other and document their experiences throughout the week (for example, with photographs, blog-posts, and video). We also strongly encourage our participants to use this forum to share their overall reflections at the Week’s end. In the past, participants have been known to express themselves in many ways - through the performance of songs, dances, or skits, the writing of poems, and the creation of art.

Our Poverty Discussion Forum is also a venue for our partners to introduce themselves to each other and our participants. Through these introductions, we hope to facilitate the exchange of ideas and creation of opportunities for our participants and partners to collaborate in meeting the Two Dollar Challenge.

We invite our Partners (whether non-profit institutions or student organizations) to provide us:

  1. A link to your homepage.
  2. Your mission statement
  3. An inspirational video to share with others
  4. A brief statement telling us about the community you work with; your latest development initiative; how you believe poverty can be ended, what role students play in realizing its end; and how our Poverty Action Program can help you accomplish your goals.

We invite our Participants to provide us with:

  1. A link to your blog
  2. A personal statement of why you are involved in the issues surrounding poverty
  3. A brief statement telling us how you believe poverty can be ended, what role students play in realizing its end; and how our Poverty Action Program can help you accomplish your goals.
